One of the problems with cage style Feral Hog Traps is the high cost of making them. When we started designing this trap we had two major objectives. One, it had to be easy to assemble. No one wants to spend hours trying to figure out how to assemble anything out in the field or in their garage for that matter. All the bolts are the same size so every time you reach into the supplied bag of bolts no matter what bolt you grab it's the right one. Two, the trap had to be easy to store and transport. One of the biggest problem fully welded cage style traps have is they are cumbersome and take up large amounts of space. This trap breaks down in 6 pieces as shown in Pic. (1). Fore those that only trap during Hunting Season or spot trap as needed to for Feral Hog Control, this trap is ideal as it can be broken down and easily stored until it needed.

Why purchase a Trap with the duel use optionLess Trapping Equipment = Less Expense!

One of the things we always stress when trapping feral hogs (unless your sport trapping) is to establish a Feral Hog Trapping Plan/ Program. This requires an understanding of what the difference of Cage Style Traps and Hog Trap Fronts are designed to do. For problem areas where large numbers of Feral Hogs are present we highly recommend starting out using a large pen either built with Wire Mesh Panels and T-Post (can be purchased at most Farm and Ranch Stores) or portable manufactured Hog Trap Panels and a quality Hog Trap Front. For problem areas where Hogs are causing considerable damage to Crops, Wet Lands, Parks or other protected interest we highly recommend starting your trapping program with as large a Pen system as possible, preferably a pen that is anywhere from 17' deep X 8' wide to pens that are 30' in diameter or larger (even though smaller pens will work we have found that the larger the pen the higher the capture rate). The shape of the pen is not as important as is the depth of the pen. The depth of the pen system is by far the most important as you want any Feral Hogs entering your trap to have to travel as far away from the Trap Door as possible to the bait source which allows even more hogs to enter behind the lead hog therefore increasing your capture rate. Once Feral Hog numbers start decreasing a cage style trap can then be used for spot trapping problem areas. Some may argue that leaving the larger trap in place to trap the smaller numbers is all that is needed. The problem with this is that it's very time consuming to take a large pen down and set up in a new location and many Feral Hogs will travel by themselves or in small numbers and may not travel where large groups have to travel to find new food sources. This is where Cage Style Traps come in for spot trapping. Spot trapping is ideal after numbers decline or where small groups are roaming. Cage style traps can easily be loaded on a trailer or in the bed of a truck and relocated to problem areas. This is the reason we developed our duel purpose trap option.

Trap Assembly Instructions:

Note:  Assembly Suggestions

1. Remember all panels are assembled with the Galvanized Wire Mesh facing outside.

2. Leave all nuts hand tight until the trap is totally assembled then go back and tighten all nuts.

3. Your trap is shipped with (2) extra 3/8" x 3 1/2" Bolts and Lock Nuts.

Step 1.

Before unpacking the Trap from the pallet, locate a flat even surface to assemble the trap. Lay each Panel flat on the ground. You should now have a total of (5) panels (1- Top, 1- Bottom, 2 Sides & 1- End Panel and 1- Trap Door Frame) (1) Trap Door Frame, Bolt Packet containing 30 3/8" x 3 1/2" Bolts & Lock Nuts, (1) Door Trip Line Cable.

Step 2.

 A. Locate the Trap Door Frame

B. Locate the Bottom 4' Wide X 6' Long Panel ( The traps bottom panel is marked with a letter B. Place the panel with the Wire Mesh facing down and the end with the letter B facing the trap.
C. Place the Bottom Panel at the base of the Trap Door Assembly lining up the three 3/8" holes and insert (3) 3/8" X 3 1/2" Bolts & Lock Nuts. Your Trap should now be identical to the picture to the right.
D.  Locate the traps 3' High X 6' Long side Panels. The trap has a left and a right side. The right side panel will have a 2" x 2" angle piece that the door closes against. Set this panel in place and attach with (3) 3/8" X  3 1/2" Bolts & Lock Nuts. Locate the traps left side panel (hinge side panel) which will have two hoops welded to it which are used to run the traps trip wire as shown in the picture to the right. Set this panel in place and attach with (3) 3/8" X 3 1/2" Bolts & Lock Nuts. You should now have the bottom left and right side panels attached to the traps door frame.

Left Side Panel with Welded Hoops for trip Line

E.  Locate the traps end panel which is the smallest panel. Place the panel in-between the two side panels and sitting on top of the bottom panel. Insert (9) 3/8" X 3 1/2" Bolts and Lock Nuts in the two side and bottom panels.

F.  Locate the traps top panel. This should be the last remaining panel. Place the remaining panel with the Galvanized wire mesh facing up. The end with the letter (T) is to be placed against the trap door frame and attached with (3) 3/8" x 3 1/2" Bolts and Lock Nuts. Using the remaining Bolts and Lock Nuts finish installing Bolt in all Bolt Hole locations and Tighten all Bolts & Nuts securely.

Step 3.  Installing the Traps Trip Line

Locate the traps supplied trip line and finger release. Starting at the top of the trap closest to the door frame thread the trip line cable through the welded top hoop. Next thread the cable end through the bottom welded Hoop and attach the trip line to the trap far right corner. Using the supplied Cable Clamp, thread the cable through the clamp using only enough cable as needed to securely clamp the cable tight.

Step 4.  Adjust Door Trip Line

Holding the Traps Door in the open position, place the trip line line release on the doors finger located on the upper right side of the door. For optimum results the traps door should be held open anywhere from 90 degrees to just slightly past 90 degrees. Adjust the trap doors release tension by either shortening the cable for less travel or lengthening the cable for greater travel.

You are now ready to start trapping!  Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

If you have any questions regarding the use of this trap please do not hesitate to contact us. Always use Caution when Trapping Feral Hogs or approaching the trap with Hogs inside as often times other Hogs may still be in the area.
