Sportsman 3 Door Push Thru/ Root Style Hog Trap

Push Thru/ Root Door Feral Hog Trap
Our Push Thru/ Root Door Feral Hog Trap is designed for portability and is affordably priced. This extremely popular model trap features three swinging doors that allow Feral Hogs to enter but prevents them from escaping due to the design of the doors. This is one of the easiest Feral Hog Traps to use allowing most anyone to trap nuisance Feral Hogs.

3 Door Root Door Feral Hog Trap Face
All Root Door Style Feral Hog Traps are not Built The Same!
Contrary to what many might think, all Feral Hog Traps are not built the same. Many Feral Hog Trap builders skimp on steel or take the cheap way out. Our Feral Hog Traps are built to last and are designed to give years of service.
`Replaceable Doors:
What makes our three door Root Style Door Hog Trap different than other manufacturers? Our Doors can be replaced in the event they are damaged, no cutting or welding involved. Most other manufacturers weld their doors to the traps frame making it almost impossible to replace if the door becomes damaged.. Feral Hog Traps with welded doors are extremely hard to replace due to having to cut the hinges out of the trap to remove a damaged door which also weakens the steel where the door hinge is welded. In the event our doors are damaged, they can easily be replaced by removing a retaining pin and sliding it out making removing the door fast and easy.
Door Hinge:
The hinges on our three door root style Hog Traps are the strongest in the industry. Each door hinges on a one piece 3/4" solid rod that is supported not only on the ends but in two separate places toward the center of the trap. No other manufacturer offers this much support or strength for their doors.
Center Side Wall Bracing:
All of our 8' long Feral Hog Traps come standard with built in side wall bracing. We believe this bracing is extremely important as the bracing is placed in the weakest point of the trap where Feral Hogs ram the sides trying to escape/. Bracing this area aids in preventing wire fatigue and prevents the 4" x 4" wire mesh panels from becoming damaged resulting in costly repairs.

Sportsman model Hog Trap Instructions
The Sportsman model Hog Trap is one of the easiest model hog traps to use and will provide years of service and fun by following these simple instructions. Always remember to use extreme caution when checking your trap.
Note: For you safety, Sportsman model hog traps require anchoring of all four corners of the trap with stakes or T-Post to prevent hogs from rooting under the trap or pushing the trap along the ground.
Hog Trap Location:
Step 1. Find a suitable location for your trap. Stay away from clear open areas, hogs are extremely cautious in open areas and will be less likely to enter you trap. Place you trap in brushy to semi brushy areas preferably along paths (Do not place trap directly on a hog path). Place the opening of the trap toward the path a few feet back off the path (Hog paths are easily identified by observing hog movement and searching for Hog Tracks several days prior to setting your trap in place).
Note: Keep in mind the animal you are trapping is wild and should be treated no different than hunting any other wild game. Hogs have extremely good sense of smell and can smell you long after you have been gone. When placing your trap wear gloves to prevent transferring your scent to the trap. Do not spit. chew tobacco or smoke when placing or checking your trap. Keep Dogs away from your trap if possible. One of the best ways to ruin your trapping is to have your dog along urinating on the trap and leaving their scent.
Anchoring your Hog Trap:
Step 2. Optional: Although not needed, we highly recommend anchoring your trap with T-Post and wire.
Pre-Baiting:
Step 3. Pre-Baiting is a must and will pay off in the long run. Once you trap been placed, wire the door in the open position so that it cannot slam shut. Place a small amount of bait just outside the traps door then trail the bait through the door leading to the back corner of the trap. Place a fairly good amount of bait in the back corner just beyond the trip wire. Check your trap daily around the same time. Hogs become accustomed to human movement and checking your trap at different times may negatively affect your trapping success. Keep Pre-Baiting with the door held open until you have signs that hogs are entering your trap. The longer you Pre-Bait the greater the chances are that you will catch multiple hogs. Pre-Baiting is a must in order for you keep trapping Hogs after the door has been tripped as your trap is a continuous catch trap, hogs can enter after the door has been tripped. Pre-Baiting is basically training the Hogs to enter your trap for a food reward. The longer you train the better your trapping results will be.
Note: When baiting your trap do not touch the bait with your bare hands as your scent will be left on the bait. Wear gloves, remember you are trying to increase your odds of trapping a hog so do not leave your scent on the trap.
Baiting Option: To keep a constant feed source in your trap which will encourage hogs to keep entering your trap even after it has been tripped, try burying a small bucket of soured corn. Find a small plastic bucket with a lid and fill it almost to the top with corn. Add some activated yeast and for smell and taste you can even add a can of Beer, fill to the top with water. Punch a few small holes in the plastic lid and place on top of corn. Let sit in full sun light for a few days checking liquid level often and topping off when needed. Dig a hole that is 6 to 10 inches deeper than the height of your bucket. Place the bucket in the hole and cover the top with large rocks (Do Not Fill back in with Dirt). You have now added a constant bait source that will keep the hogs coming back for more and increase your chances of trapping additional hogs after the door has been tripped.
Setting the Trip Wire Door (Models with Trip Wire Door Closure):
Step 4. Wearing gloves to prevent leaving your scent. Set the spring loaded door in the open position with trip wire loop end and check for obstructions. Be sure to clear any large rocks or other debris away from the door. Promptly leave the area. Be sure to check your trap at least once a day. Check the trap from just far enough away to make sure you have bait left in the bottom of the trap.
Caution: Extreme Caution should be used when checking traps. Sows with young can become extremely dangerous when they feel their young are being threatened. Feral Hogs have been known to attack humans when cornered.
When not trapping wire the Traps door in the closed position to prevent animals from entering the trap by accident.
Caution: Wear gloves at all times when handling and processing Hogs. Hogs can carry diseases that can be transmitted to humans.
